Poem: "I Believe" (Poem 4)
Jan. 20th, 2025 05:36 pmPoem: "I Believe"
Today is sad.
Hope failed.
People were willingly led astray.
I still believe in love.
I believe in respecting the humanity in others,
no matter their color, gender, or who they love.
I am stretched to respect those who love a leader,
A leader who hates those I love.
But I believe in love,
in warming centers for the homeless,
In foster homes for dogs.
I believe in hugs.
I believe in feeding hungry kids,
Whether in Africa or in our public schools.
I believe in hope for kids,
No matter their color,
No matter which country they or their parents were born in.
I also believe there are no easy answers.
But I believe complexity isn't a good excuse for not trying,
For not caring,
For being heartless.
I still believe in hope,
Even when it's hard to find.
Today is sad.
Hope failed.
People were willingly led astray.
I still believe in love.
I believe in respecting the humanity in others,
no matter their color, gender, or who they love.
I am stretched to respect those who love a leader,
A leader who hates those I love.
But I believe in love,
in warming centers for the homeless,
In foster homes for dogs.
I believe in hugs.
I believe in feeding hungry kids,
Whether in Africa or in our public schools.
I believe in hope for kids,
No matter their color,
No matter which country they or their parents were born in.
I also believe there are no easy answers.
But I believe complexity isn't a good excuse for not trying,
For not caring,
For being heartless.
I still believe in hope,
Even when it's hard to find.
